Facilities Management Strategic Planning |
| The Facilities Management Department of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte faces tremendous challenges and opportunities over the next five years. The University has embarked on the largest Capital Construction Program in its history. Academic square footage will double between 2002 and 2007. The student population will increase from 18,000 students today to over 25,000 in five years. Further, the University recently achieved Research-Intensive status and plans to attain Research-Extensive status within eight years. As a result, the purpose of many of the facilities on campus will change from teaching to research. Changes in facilities maintenance and operation must follow this change in focus. In addition to all of this growth and change the University must deal with constrained budgets, personnel turbulence and rapid growth of the metropolitan area surrounding the campus. Clearly, the Facilities Management Department must face these myriad challenges head on. Our Strategic Plan, detailed below, attempts to address the challenges and opportunities of the next five years by describing our mission, vision, values and goals. It also details objectives, strategies and action plans which lead to achievement of our vision and goals. The Plan was developed in a series of leadership meetings, planning sessions and employee discussions between March and September 2001. It is intended to support the University vision and goals, the Business Affairs Division Plan 2002-2007 and the Academic Plan 2002-2007. This Plan is our organization's road map to an exciting future. As part of our Plan, the Department of Facilities Management has committed to excelling at three key business drivers: Teamwork -Internal and External
-Quality products and services
-Streamline processes |
