Buildings

The building pattern illustrated by The Next Step will reinforce the campus open space system with simple, practical buildings which typically enclose space.  To achieve the proposed additional tree million gross square feet of academic growth, nineteen new academic buildings will be sited, each approximately 160,000 gross square feet and five to six stories high.  The academic buildings are planned predominantly south of Craver Road.

The residential buildings situated predominantly north of Craver Road will form smaller internal courtyards with glen areas nearby.  Some new buildings are proposed adjacent to existing residential

buildings in order to complete these courtyards. To reach the goal of 6,370 students on campus, new residential buildings shown in the plan will average four to five stories.  This will achieve an appropriate collegiate scale and the plan suggests residential buildings contain no more than 250 beds each.  Buildings could be paired and managed jointly to achieve operating economies.

All buildings in the 2000 Plan will be serviced as illustrated by a Service Route Plan (see the Technical Booklet).
