The University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Campus Facility Plan is presented in this series of web pages.  Campus Master Planning at UNC Charlotte began in 1961 when Charlotte College moved to the present site of the University.  Facilities planning evolved over the years through a number of detailed studies and drawings.  Formal versions of a master plan were published in 1974, 1986 and 1995.  The latest version of the Master Plan, presented here, is titled The Next Step. The Next Step represents Campus Facility Planning in 2000, and is a companion document to the 1995 Master Plan.  Together with the 1995 Master Plan, The Next Step establishes a coherent, systematic pattern of growth from a campus of 16,800 students to one of 30,000 students during the next 20 years.

Any university master plan is a living document that changes as the campus grows.  Thus, planning for the future of UNC Charlotte continues to evolve subsequent to publication of The Next Step.  The latest developments in campus planning can be viewed by clicking on the “Current Planning Concepts” link.  Specific capital project information can also be viewed from the “All Capital Projects” link on the UNC Charlotte Facilities Home Page.  Questions or comments concerning master planning at UNC Charlotte can be addressed to Peter Franz at 704-687-3685. All of our planning efforts - past, present and future – are dedicated to creating a distinctly attractive and functional university campus that encourages the development of new knowledge and the exchange of ideas.
